Stores wherever you look
The most affected territory is the immediate surroundings of the capital of Prague. The Central Bohemian Region is slowly giving up its fields for investors to build on them warehouses and assembly halls. For foreign companies, the Czech Republic is ideal for assembly of products, their storage and subsequent delivery to other countries in and outside Europe. We are cheap - our wages are well below the European average. We are industrious and plots of land were very cheap not long ago. How does it affect agriculture, however? The Central Bohemian Region offers a sad picture of the countryside; meadows and fields are vanishing, being replaced with concrete.
We do not want to be an assembly shop and store
Constantin Kinský, the head of the French-Czech Chamber of Commerce, recently gave an interview to the E15 website, outlining the situation and saying that the Czech Republic is successfully getting rid of its label as a cheap assembly shop.
In recent years, the French have appreciated the Czech political stability. After all, the Czech Republic is one of the few Central European countries which have remained purely democratic in the region. If we look at the great internal social conflicts taking place in Hungary, Poland and Slovakia now, the functional democracy in the Czech Republic is a great attraction for business. At the same time, this gives the Czech Republic a higher credit in international agreements. This is perceived as a safe background by entrepreneurs.

In this connection, people often talk about the 4th industrial revolution, modernizing and automating production. The government has already initiated discussions in support of foreign investments and approved the concept of the Ministry of Industry, the National Initiative Industry 4.0. The aim is to prepare companies in the Czech Republic to be competitive in the new industrial generation.
Multinational giants, such as Bosch, Siemens, Volkswagen and others, have subsidiaries and sales offices in the Czech Republic, which are sensibly affected by these changes. But also Czech companies are successful. With the support of European provisioning funds, development and test centres are increasingly being built. New technologies, materials and production procedures are being tested. Czechs want to use their brains rather than their hands for work.
End of golden Czech hands?
We should realize that every development goes hand in hand with product assembly and its storage or shipment. The head of the CBRE division of industrial and logistic services (lessor of stores in the Czech Republic) warns:
Many voices in the Czech Republic are saying that we will want to skip building of assembly lines and immediately go to much prettier research and development centres. We often forget, however, that everything begins with an assembly line. If the assembly line goes to another country, we can also forget about future research and development centres.
