And what about children? Have they a place to run about? Can a school do without a sports hall?

Movement is crucial for adults as well as children. Particularly at a time when children increasingly suffer from obesity. Some schools, however, do not even have their own gyms, sports grounds or sports halls in the vicinity to provide shelter when playing sports. What does this mean for children? Is there a simple solution? Yes…

The number of obese children is ever increasing. It is caused by bad eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. The number of hours spent on the computer or with a smartphone in hand significantly exceeds the time spent on outdoor games and sports. Even a few years ago, children used to swarm outside whenever their parents allowed. Not only in villages, but also in towns. What to do about that? There are 2 main factors influencing movement of children: parents and school.

School - foundation of life and regular sport

In our hurried times, parents often have problems getting enough leisure time. Therefore, it is not possible for them to take one hundred-percent care of their children’s exercise every day. At weekends, it is certainly possible to find time for family activities. But that is not enough. Moreover, this cannot compensate for children’s common activities at school, which can influence their entire lives:

Sport forms the basis of overall health and physical capabilities

Physical fitness, persistence and dexterity. It is not important whether a child is able to climb a tree or score 5 times during a handball game in a sports hall. The movement which children have adopted will serve them to old age. It will be reflected in their overall health.

Sport builds up self-confidence and purposefulness

Children must face the fact that not everything will go well: If they start playing football, they will not immediately learn to dribble like professional players in the premier league. This will motivate them to try, develop their skills and improve themselves. In this way, sound self-confidence and purposefulness are encouraged. These properties are definitely useful in other spheres of life, both personal and professional.

Sport develops interpersonal skills

In the atmosphere during collective sport in the school hall, children learn to cooperate with others, They communicate with the coach, each other and their rivals during the game. All of that strengthens interpersonal relations and skills.

A school without a sports hall. A lot of restrictions particularly for children

It is quite common for town schools to have their own gyms. Children can also regularly attend specialized sports halls to improve in some sport. In some small towns and particularly in villages, however, schools have no gym or there is no municipal sports hall. Therefore, children have to travel to neighbouring villages which have sports facilities. And this is not convenient, either in summer or in winter.

Children lose time which could be spent better

What does a PT lesson look like in a village without any sports hall for children? We asked a teacher from the primary school in Vrbátky:

Unfortunately, we have no gym at the school. There is no sports hall in the municipality where we could exercise either. Therefore, we have to travel to nearby Dubany, more than a kilometre away. The journey there and back takes us about 30 minutes

Subsequently, children only have 1.5 PT lessons weekly instead of 2. And this is the ideal case, for not everything is easy with children.

The optimum solution is a prefabricated sports hall

Construction of a classic gym is unfeasible in most cases. Owing to costs as well as the existing layout of the school buildings. A solution, therefore, is a sports hall which can be fully adapted to the specific needs of the school facilities. It is possible, for instance, to roof the existing playing field or to equip the sports hall with sanitary facilities, changing rooms, etc. The greatest advantage, however, is the quick assembly, thanks to which the hall can be erected in a few months. At the Vrbátky school, there is already a light at the end of the tunnel, as the teacher confirms:

{QUOTE:A multifunctional sports hall is currently being built in Vrbátky, which will serve the school as well as the entire municipality. The investment is co-financed by the municipality. We are very much looking forward to the sports facility, which will be used not only by children, but also by the general public.;;Lukáš Fusek}

Czech Republic as the store and assembly shop of Europe? Prefabricated halls instead of field.

The Czech Republic is known as the heart of Europe. However, it is also one of the main arteries and the gateway to Central Europe. Evidently, our geographical location has an influence on our industrial position as well. 30 years have passed since the Velvet Revolution in 1989, the main aim of which was to come up to the same level as other European countries. The huge differences have certainly been reduced, but still we are rather poor relatives.
